Vladímir, al oeste de Rusia, junto al río Kliazma. Situada en una región agrícola, Vladímir es un nudo ferroviario, cuyas industrias más importantes son la de tejidos, fruta enlatada, productos químicos, instrumentos de precisión y piezas de vehículos. The earliest record of a person with the name is knyaz Vladimir of Bulgaria. The Old East Slavic form of the name is Володимѣръ Volodiměr, while the Old Church Slavonic form is Vladiměr.

Its Germanic form, Waldemar, consists of the elements wald- meaning “power”, “brightness” and -mar meaning “fame”. Vladimir almost exactly shares the same meaning with the name Robert. According to historian Donald Ostrowski, Russians tend to prefer “Vladimir”, while Ukrainians tend to prefer “Volodimer”. The Slavic name survives in two traditions, the Old Church Slavonic one using the vocalism Vladi- and the Old East Slavic one in the vocalism Volodi-. In Polish, the name is spelled Włodzimierz.
